A Rastafarian group is crying foul over what it says is blatant discrimination against children who wear dreadlocked hairstyles to school.
Secretary general of the the National Rastafari Secretariat Trust (NRST), Paul “Ras Simba” Rock, is making the claim after what he says has been a recent surge in Rastafari children being sent home from secondary schools with letters to their parents indicating displeasure over the hairstyle.
Ras Simba said he has already written nine letters to principals since the restart of face-to-face classes this term, including two on Monday.
Additionally, he said the group has written a letter requesting a meeting with Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw to thrash out the issue, though it has not been delivered as yet. (RA)
