Chelsea Tuach was crowned champion of the Barbados Surf Pro QS 3000 in front of an adoring home crowd yesterday as a superb 15.00 propelled her to an incredible victory at the Soup Bowl, Bathsheba.

In one of the most iconic moments of local surfing, the woman who was bestowed as the face of the competition, fulfilled destiny with a brilliant display to defeat American Sawyer Lindbald in a thrilling 35-minute final showdown.

The 26-year-old Tuach, arguably the island’s best female surfer, kept her composure and delivered the goods on the first and third waves with scores of 6.67 and 8.33, respectively, in familiar waters to win a cash prize of BDS$8 000.

Lindbald totalled 9.60 with best scores 5.17 and 4.43 in calm wind conditions on the East coast. With five minutes on the clock, Lindbald was faced with a mammoth task of securing a near-perfect 9.87 and two turns and a peak, before time elapsed and Tuach basked in glory, winning a historic first QS title and fourth WSL Soup Bowl crown.
