Barbados’ head coach Ramon Armstrong says the 18-member contingent set to represent the island at the 49th CARIFTA Games from April 16-18 in Kingston, Jamaica, will be boosted by an experienced Under-20 field team.

The senior team is led by Vivica Addison, silver medallist in the javelin at the 2019 Games in the Cayman Islands, and double bronze medallists Aren Spencer, Kevon Hinds, and Layla Haynes.

Fynn Armstrong will lead the Under-17 boys and promising middle-distance runner Ashlyn Simmons headlines the Under-17 girls.

“We have a good field team,” he told NATIONSPORT. “The athletes are experienced – all of them would have competed at CARIFTA before, and some of them even went to bigger meets.

“It is just a bit unfortunate that all of them are in the final year. It is good that they have the opportunity to end their junior career with a bang at CARIFTA, which is one of the major track and field championships in our region and in the world.” (AGB)
