The Ministry of Education is keeping a close eye on the rise of COVID-19 cases and by next week, all stakeholders will know the Government’s plans for the Trinity term.

Minister of Education Kay McConney gave that update yesterday while noting that there had been an increase in cases since the end of the second term and face-to-face last week.

“As we see the numbers, we have to consult with our partners, the Ministry of Health. We also have to consult with our other partners in education as well as seek to decide what is next and what’s best.

“We also have to remember we are in a situation where we have to learn to live with COVID and figure out how to live with it safely and responsibly and in a way that ensures we keep as many people alive but balance that with our educational objectives.

“So next week, the Chief [Education Officer] and the Ministry of Education will be reporting properly to the country and giving some signal as to what will happen in the next term. We will make the best decision based on the information we have at the time and as we get new information we will make new decisions, that’s part of being in a dynamic situation,” McConney said.

She made those comments to reporters following the launch of the Barbados Construction Gateway Training Initiative at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. (TG)
