A flood warning for Barbados remains in effect and will be updated at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

The warning was initially issued on Tuesday and has been extended as a trough system continues to affect the island, generating periods of rain and moderate to heavy showers.

A flood warning is issued when flooding is occurring or is imminent within the next 48 hours.

Over the last 36 hours, rainfall accumulations of between two and five inches were received across the island. These unstable conditions being experienced will persist over the next few days with further accumulations of one to three inches are expected across Barbados.

Residents and visitors should note that the following are likely during this forecast period: Significant runoff from higher elevations; significant soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces; large water settlements on roads and fields; significant adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds and so on) and delays on traffic routes with some roads possibly impassable.

Large objects or debris from higher elevations may also become embedded within fast-moving water flows. Significant flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads is also possible.
