The infliction of violence by one spouse on another is “one of the dangerous and unfortunate events of our time”, a High Court judge said yesterday.
“To kill a man must be one of the most profound experiences any human being could go through. To kill a lover, in a physical dispute, must be particularly heart-wrenching,” Justice Carlisle Greaves told victim of domestic violence Angela Wright as he sentenced her to 11 months in jail for killing her abusive boyfriend ten years ago.
Wright, 54, of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, earlier in the Sessions of Continuous Sittings in the No. 3 Supreme Court, to unlawfully killing James Jackman, 45, of Bedford Lane, Roebuck Street, The City, on March 23, 2012.
She was originally arraigned with his murder but Senior State Counsel Neville Watson accepted the plea to the lesser count based on provocation.
