Agrofest is important to the agricultural sector and remains one of the key events in showcasing what local and regional producers have to offer.

However, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) James Paul said it will be scaled down.

Speaking yesterday at the launch of the event being held at month end in Queen’s Park, he said everything was in place for Barbados’ largest agricultural exhibition to take place at month end, with about 200 exhibitors, including about 50 from Guyana and Suriname. To date about 130 exhibitors have signed up.

“We are holding Agrofest this year under extenuating circumstances and I want to make that very clear. I want to assure all the persons that will be attending we will be taking special care. We in the agricultural sector know what biosecurity is; we practise it. It is important for the health of our animals that we engage in biosecurity in agriculture. So, I see Agrofest as an extension of that,” Paul said at the event held at Radisson Aquatica Hotel.

Patrons will be able to get tested outside the venue and there was no limitation on the number of people that could attend on any day at The City venue, but every step will be taken to ensure physical distancing and their safety. (GBM)
