Despite a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Barbados attributed largely to the newer, more transmissible strains of the virus, so far there have been no reports of outbreaks at schools since face-to-face classes resumed.
This is according to Minister of Education Kay McConney who said yesterday the schools had “for the most part continued to follow the road map that had some very clear and specific steps that were to be taken to ensure that the environment remained safe”.
“Yes, there are cases as we expect there to be but no outbreak,” McConney told members of the media, on the sidelines of a press conference at the Ministry, but she said to date she had not been informed by the Ministry of Health about any uptick in cases at schools.
The minister also said some schools had been forced to resort to the use of “satellite sites” as extensions for classrooms, to facilitate the required physical distancing of students. (GC)
