The late former Barbados captain and West Indies’ all-rounder David Holford was an astute cricket administrator who was very committed to the Spartan club and a strong believer in discipline.

“The Spartan Club has lost one of its iconic members. He was a true club person in every respect at all times and, in all situations, his commitment to his club was not only in the great performances on the field of play but also off the field,” acting Spartan secretary Vincent Bullen said in a tribute to Holford on behalf of the Queen’s Park-based club.

“Whenever the club needed assistance in any way he would go beyond the call of duty to make sure everything was in order to ensure his beloved Spartan was in good order,” added Bullen, a former first-class cricket umpire.

Bullen said the Spartan club members are very saddened at the passing of their former outstanding president and captain, who will be laid to rest today after a service at the Chapel of the Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens. (EZS)
