Managing director RJG Boat Rides, and representative of MV Dreamchaser,  Russell Wilson, joined the growing voices of those condemning gun violence in Barbados.

Wilson was speaking hours after a shooting incident in the Screw Dock, Cavans Lane, left one man dead and three others injured.

“We wish to express our sympathy at the loss of another human life to gun violence. We also wish to clarify that this incident did not occur at the entrance of the MV Dreamchaser as stated by some of the media houses.

“We continue to extend our best efforts to keep our patrons, staff and stakeholders safe, and join the rest of Barbados in strongly condemning these actions that are leading to loss of human life.”

Wilson told Nation Online they have “extensive safety protocols” in place governing each cruise. He said there were police in the car park when the shooting incident occurred. A cruise was scheduled to take place on board the Dreamchaser, but they were in no way connected to the incident and fewer than 20 people had started to board the vessel.

Police received a report of a shooting incident in the vicinity of the Screw Dock just after midnight Saturday.

Rashad Mathurin, 26, of Westbury Road, St Michael, was shot and killed. Larry Clarke of Greenfield St Michael; Eva Goodridge, 27, of Appleby St James and 31-year-old Akeem Arthur, of Ferniehurst Black Rock, St Michael were also injured in the incident and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

Four vehicles sustained damage. (SAT)
