Treasure wins first Caribbean Games medal for Barbados

Danielle Treasure created local sporting history on Thursday night by capturing Barbados’ first medal at the inaugural 2022 Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe.

Treasure, a multiple CARIFTA aquatics medallist, won silver in the women’s 200 metre backstroke event in 2 minutes 22.63 seconds.

Cuba’s Andrea Becali captured the gold in 2:20.95 minutes,while Curacao’s Samantha Van Vuure (2:28.51) took the bronze.

Meantime, Nkosi Dunwoody finished fourth in his heat of the men’s 200 metre medley in 2:18.55 minutes.

On the track, both Kyle Gale and Miguel Nicholas advanced to the men’s 400 metres finals while Barbados’ netball team defeated St Lucia 44-36 to record their third consecutive victory of the tournament.

They lost to Jamaica 64-34 and are in silver medal contention. (AGB)
