BARVEN fills the Bridgetown Market void

The Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) has stepped in to try and fill in a missing part of the Crop Over calendar.

Bridgetown Market did not make the cut this year on the official National Cultural Foundation (NCF) list of events. The island’s biggest street fair, it usually takes place on the weekend following the Pic O De Crop Finals and Foreday Morning events and covers a large section of the Spring Garden Highway, now the Mighty Grynner Highway.

With the return of those events following a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the street fair remained absent.

However, BARVEN held its own Bridgetown Market yesterday with the backing of the NCF, albeit on a smaller scale as it took place only at the BARVEN market area and the pasture next door.

BARVEN president Alister Alexander said it was the most authentic Bridgetown Market ever. (CA)
