COVID-19 update for August 3

Another 718 new COVID-19 cases were detected on Wednesday, August 3, in Barbados.

According to health authorities, 299 males and 419 females tested positive for the viral illness from the 1 566 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The positive cases comprised 80 young people under the age of 18, , and the rest were adults 18 years and older.

The number of people in isolation facilities was 62, while 2 799 were in home isolation.

An 87-year-old man succumbed to the viral illness on Wednesday.

As at August 3, there were 496 deaths related to COVID-19 recorded in Barbados.

Under the national vaccination programme for COVID-19, the total number of people with at least one dose is 162 966 (71.4 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of fully vaccinated people is 154 033 (56.8 per cent of the total population or 67.4 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents anyone who is 12 years and older.
