Shane Brathwaite copped a silver medal for Barbados in the men’s 110 metres hurdles at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday in Birmingham, England.

Brathwaite, 32, clocked a season’s best time of 13.30 seconds to give Barbados its fourth silver medal in the history of Games and 13th medal overall.

Running out of Lane 1, Brathwaite came out of the blocks strong, and he appeared to have the edge over the field for the first 30 to 40 metres.

Rasheed Broadbell of Jamaica defied the absence of his compatriot and favourite Hansle Parchment, and he took charge in the later stages, getting to the line in a Games record and personal best time of 13.08 secs to capture gold.

Andrew Pozzi of England finished third in 13.37 to take the bronze medal.
