Barbados’ Under-19 team is into the final of the Cricket West Indies’ Rising Stars Boys’ Under-19 Championship, which starts Thursday.

Their opponents in the three-day final at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex in St Vincent will be the Leeward Islands.

Yesterday, not a ball was bowled on the third and final day of the final preliminary round match against hosts Windward Islands at the Park Hill Complex.

Overnight and early morning showers left the ground saturated and play was officially called off at 12:30 p.m., half-hour after the lunch break.

Barbados were set to resume on 90 for five, in reply to Windward Islands’ 152. Romario Roach was on 20 and Nathan Sealy one.

With the match abandoned as a no-result, Barbados came away with seven points and Windwards 4.4 points.

Barbados topped the overall standings with 45.4 points, including two wins. Windwards, who were also in zone ‘B’ ended with 15.6 points while Jamaica finished second in the zone with 26 points.

Leeward Islands topped zone “A” on 31.6 points with one victory while Guyana ended with 24.8 and Trinidad and Tobago got 12.4 points.

Trinidad and Tobago’s final match against Leeward Islands was also abandoned on the last day without a ball being bowled due to wet conditions. Leewards were 49 for three in response to Trinidad and Tobago’s 251 for eight declared at Cumberland. Leewards came away with six points and Trinidad 5.6 points.

Guyana and Jamaica also had to settle for a no-decision as no play was possible at Arnos Vale. Guyana were 283 for six. Both teams gained five points.

Final points standings: Barbados 45.4, Leewards 31.6, Jamaica 26.00, Guyana 24.8, Windwards 15.6, Trinidad and Tobago 12.4. (EH)
