The future of Barbados’ squash is in good hands, but the sport still needs to be supported adequately to yield even greater results on the regional and international stage.
Senior team manager Michael Best commended the team for their efforts at the regional meet last week despite the absence of players such as Meagan Best and Amanda Haywood, who represented the island at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last month.
“From a Barbadian perspective, the performance was good to see despite not sending a full-strength team and we noticed the growth in our players over the three years not having any serious competition,” Best told Nation Sport.
“For Khamal, at the last CASA [Caribbean Area Squash Association] tournament, he finished in the quarter-finals, and this year he got right to the finals and was the only person in the whole tournament who won a game against Chris Binnie of Jamaica. We are looking forward to the future and perhaps getting Binnie out next year, that’s the goal we left with.”
Shawn Simpson finished in the round of 16 last year and finished in the quarters this year. (NM)
