The BiiG Games are back.
After a three-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) is set to host the Barbados Invitational Independence Games (BiiG) in November, marking the return of one of the island’s most anticipated sporting events.
Since 2019, BOA officials have been forced to call off the event as a result of restrictions on sports because of the coronavirus, however, BOA general manager Glyne Clarke confirmed the development to Weekend Sport yesterday during a telephone interview.
He said a meeting with national federations is slated for next Tuesday to determine how many athletes and disciplines will be involved.
Three years ago, the Games featured 28 sports, granting the opportunity for Barbadian, regional and international athletes to showcase their talents.
“We are meeting with the member associations to see how big we can do it and see who will be taking part. We are looking at a one or two-day event. It is not going to be as large as before on the scale. A lot of the federations haven’t actually gone back in full time,” Clarke said. (AGB)
