Health authorities in Barbados reported on Wednesday another death from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 46 new cases of the viral illness in the island.
COVID-19 claimed the life of a 65-year-old man on Tuesday, September 13, and brought the number of deaths from the illness to 559, a news release from the Barbados Government Information Service stated.
The news release added that 22 males and 24 females – including seven young people under the age of 18 – tested positive for the viral illness from the 343 tests conducted on the same day by laboratories across the island.
The authorities indicated that there were 38 people seeking medical treatment in government isolation facilities at the time of reporting, while 356 were being monitored under the home isolation programme of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
Health authorities also reported that 163 476 people (71.6 per cent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.
The number of people now considered fully vaccinated against the viral illness in the island now stands at 154 516 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.7 per cent of the eligible population).
The eligible population is anyone 12 years and older.
