Weather forecasters in Barbados urged residents and visitors to be aware of the possibility of some localised flooding as a tropical wave passes south of the island on Wednesday.

Forecasters at the Barbados Meteorological Services have been closely monitoring the wave for the past two days, and said satellite imagery over the past 12 hours continued to show a large area of disorganised convection associated with the tropical wave tracking westward at around 15 to 20 miles an hour.

“Latest model guidance is in relatively good agreement that most of the activity associated with the system will pass to the south of Barbados (Wednesday) morning,” forecasters said.

“Some slow development of this system is likely, and it could become a tropical depression in the Caribbean Sea over the next few days.

“Rainfall accumulations of up to one inch and possibly isolated higher amounts with occasional gusty winds are likely (Wednesday), as the system passes over the southern Windward islands.”

The forecasters said the small-craft advisory they issued on Tuesday remained in effect for above-normal sea swells.
