After a near two-hour deliberation, the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) panel presiding over the public hearings into the Barbados Light & Power Company’s (BL&PC) application for a rate increase dismissed a motion for an extension from the Office of the Public Counsel.

Chairman of the panel, Donley Carrington said upon reconvening at 12 p.m. that the Public Counsel failed to make its case.

Carrington said that the Office of Public Counsel failed to present articles of law that showed the FTC must put the hearing on hold while the matter is being considered by a higher court.

He also ruled that there was no evidence of an error in judgement to support the claim nor were there any new facts presented.
