Barbadian Beviny Payne was second overall in the inaugural Miss Cricket Caribbean pageant which was held in Georgetown, Guyana on Monday.

Guyana’s Amel Griffith, 21, who took the overall title, also won Best Evening Gown, Best Talent and the People’s Choice Award. She told local reporters that it was an honour to have her countrymen come out to support her.

Claire-Marissa Smartt, who represented St Lucia, was second runner up or third overall. She was also the winner of Best Carnival Costume and Best Swimwear.

The Miss Cricket Carnival pageant was part of the Cricket Carnival celebrations in Guyana where the Hero CPL 2022 finals are being hosted. It consisted of four segments – national costume, swimwear, talent and formal wear and final questions. The aim of the pageant was to boost tourism across the Caribbean.

The other Caribbean delegates for this year’s pageant from the six CPL nations were Miss Jamaica Tyra Spaulding, Miss St Kitts and Nevis Chalisa Parris and Miss Trinidad and Tobago Melanie Lawrence.

The Miss Cricket Carnival pageant was sponsored by GTT Business Solutions, Lotus Hardware and Kares Group of Companies and was just one part of Cricket Carnival 592 which runs from September 16 to October 2. (PR/SAT)
