UPDATE: Stabbing at Polytechnic

Share post:

The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) remains a safe place to study.

That is the word coming from principal Ian Drakes in the wake of a stabbing incident on Tuesday at the Wildey, St Michael campus.

A statement later that day posted on the school’s social media pages said it was “an isolated incident between two peers”.

“The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology wishes to assure students, parents and the general public that at no time were there threats of harm to any other students or staff. The SJPI will continue to cooperate with law enforcement during their investigation.”

Drakes, who appeared on television last night, followed up saying: “This is not an everyday occurrence and so I want to let the public know that your children are safe at the SJPI. Our security prides itself in making sure [our students] are kept in the best condition we can allow at all times. Management will investigate and will seek resolution to this situation . . . .”

Police are investigating the incident after receiving a report around 1:30 p.m. Two male students were involved and one was taken away for medical treatment. (PR/SAT)
