Doughlin is new netball president

Veteran netball umpire Dr Carmeta Doughlin is the new president of the Barbados Netball Association (BNA).

Doughlin defeated the former long-serving president Nisha Craigwell by 24 votes to 19 when the BNA held its annual general meeting on Wednesday night at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Another former president, Mona Alleyne, received 13 votes in the three-way battle for the top post.

Popular Master of Ceremonies and netball enthusiast, Carl “Alff” Padmore is the new vice-president after he swept aside former Barbados basketballer and netball coach, Oliver Nicholas, 41-14.

Honorary Secretary Alicia Jemmott and honorary treasurer Kathy Jones were re-elected unopposed. Voting was ongoing late Wednesday night for other positions on the BNA’s Board of Directors. (EZS)
