An accident, says murder accused

Murder accused Jarviston Thorne yesterday admitted he was pursuing Kadeem Wilfred in his truck because he intended to “put some licks” in him, and take him to the police after the teenager pelted his truck with stones.

But with tears in his voice, he recalled how Kadeem Wilfred’s feet “locked” under him, causing him to stumble and fall, and how he drove over the teenager by accident.

“It was an accident. That is all I could tell you. It was an accident,” he told the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday while giving his defence. He opted to remain in the dock for an unsworn statement.

The accused said if he had known what was going to occur on December 8, he would never have returned home for his cell phone.

He explained he was in a hurry to get to the Cement Plant in St Lucy, to secure deliveries and had forgotten his phone home. (HLE)
