More than 30 upcoming cricketers on Friday were given great insight into making it on the world stage by a giant of the game, legendary West Indies fast bowler Joel “Big Bird” Garner.

Garner, a former president of the Barbados Cricket Association and former captain of Barbados, was addressing the closing ceremony for the Line & Length Cric-Mechanics Academy at the Maurice King Complex in Brian Hall.

More than 40 under-16 and under-13 players attended the camp, conducted by former Barbados fast bowler Corey Edwards, over three weeks.

The 6ft 8in former fast bowler, who played 58 Tests and 98 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies, stressed the need for physical and mental fitness to become a success in cricket and sports generally. (KB)
