Glowing tribute was paid to Barbados’ “First Lady of Song”, Carlyn Leacock, by her children Jan Keizer and Debbie Gibson during her Home Going Celebration Service at the Wildey Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Saturday.

They gave a detailed recall of Carlyn’s musical journey and anecdotes from when she started with Sing Out Barbados to her performances at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Members of the entertainment community were out in full support, including The Most Honourable Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire (front from left), Richard Stoute and Shirley Stewart as well as The Most Honourable Anthony “Gabby” Carter (behind Stoute) and Mark Lord in the next row. Jan said Carlyn put her and Debbie at the forefront of all that she did, and made sure they would be with her as much as possible.

“Her concerts were cutting edge and way [ahead] of their time,” noted Jan.

There were many musical tributes prior and during the service.

Leacock passed away on January 12 at age 73. (Nation News)
