An early morning fire destroyed one of the businesses operating from Worthing Square in Christ Church on Sunday and damaged two others.

There was nothing left of Reggae Jerk, owned by Alton Lewis, but a burnt-out husk following the blaze.

The Barbados Fire Service reported that a call was received around 5:21 a.m. Two tenders responded, one from the nearby Worthing Fire Station and the other from Bridgetown. Eight officers under the command of sub officer Lonsdale Blake battled the fire. Investigations are continuing.

Two other businesses, Crouching Tiger and the Mount Gay bar, were slightly damaged. Patrons and business owners in the area expressed shock over the incident.

Reports are that no one was present at the time of the fire.

A brief statement on social media expressed the gratitude of business owners for the calls and support and noted that Worthing Square was still open. (CA)
