Barbados is sending a delegation to the United Kingdom to drum up more tourism business.

Minister of Tourism Ian Gooding-Edghill, who leads the team which departs today, said yesterday it was a necessary move as Barbados tries to add to the gains from a prosperous 2022-23 winter tourist season which saw the country return to almost pre-COVID-19 arrivals levels.

He said Barbados cannot rest on its laurels due to the high level of competition as other destinations in the Caribbean and Americas are also seeking more markets and larger share of the passenger pie.

Gooding-Edghill will be accompanied by Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) chairman Shelly Williams, its chief executive officer Jens Thraenhart, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Francine Blackman.

They will spend this week in London, Ireland and Scotland, where they will meet with tourism stakeholders, airline representatives and tour operators. (BA)
