Matilda is the winner of the 47th running of the Grade 1 Midsummer Creole Classic over 1 800 metres.

On Saturday’s Midsummer Creole Classic Raceday card at the Garrison Savannah, the Rene Greenidge-owned three-year-old chestnut filly got a perfect trip under her new acquisition jockey Rasheed Hughes.

The Victor Cheeseman-trained horse looked magnificent and won by an easy two and a quarter lengths despite being shut down in the last half of a furlong.

This dominating performance perfectly executed by Matilda ended the prospect of race fans witnessing a hat-trick of Barbados Triple Crown winners.

That’s because the Barbados Guineas winner and Midsummer Classic favourite Letitbeme, ridden by Rickey Walcott, failed to hit the board. (LY)
