Barbados has taken a major step towards the digital transformation of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
This is courtesy of a $4.4 million grant provided by the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) and facilitated through the European Union (EU). Details of the project, which include, new computer systems, tightening of cyber security and the seamless sharing of medical records throughout organs of the QEH, were disclosed during a press conference at Government headquarters yesterday.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley explained that having been derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the grant would help to return the country back on its mission of digitisation of Government’s services.
She disclosed that while the grant would only cover the architecture of the digital transformation, an additional loan was obtained from EU to complete the process.
While the loan amount was not revealed it was disclosed that the monies would be disbursed at an interest rate of 1.4 per cent over five years and with a 20-year moratorium. (CLM)
