India’s left-arm wrist spinner and player of the match, Kuldeep Yadav, took four wickets for six runs as the visitors trumped hosts West Indies by five wickets in the first cricket One Day International (ODI) on Thursday at Kensington Oval.
Yadav’s three-over spell, in tandem with left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, wreaked havoc on West Indies on a bowling-friendly pitch, as they crumbled to 114 all out in 23 overs.
It is West Indies’ lowest ODI score at the ‘mecca’ of Caribbean cricket.
Jadeja took three for 37 in six overs as spin scooped up ten of the 15 wickets in the match.
The regional team’s agonisingly woeful display came to an end when India stuttered to 118 for five in 22.5 overs. The highlight was a half-century, 52 from 46 balls, by wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan, who opened the batting.
Guyanese left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie returned two for 26 in a positive effort on a turning surface.
Earlier, West Indies captain Shai Hope top-scored with 43 from 45 deliveries, the only notable score of the first-innings. (RW)
