Aptly named three-year-old bay colt Social Media by Inwon out of Areuserious, who is owned by Star Empire and trained by Andre Medford, won yesterday’s Visit Barbados Derby at the historic Garrison Savannah with calculated precision.

Before a large crowd on a good to soft track, winning jockey Rey Williams ensured it would be a day to remember for the entire connections, including groom Wilbert Byfield, with a flawless 1-1/4 lengths triumph.

Going 2 000 metres in the grade 1 event rebranded by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Social Media travelled early among the back markers.

Northern Lady and Pace took the 84th edition of the Derby field on a tender gallop by dictating the early fractions in 26 seconds for the first quarter- mile and 50.3 seconds heading into the paddock bend. (LY)
