A former United States soldier who confessed to driving away a car from a mechanic’s garage in Eden Lodge, St Michael, was released on bail by the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Diquan Renaldo Naughton, an unemployed 25-year-old, who was staying in Eden Lodge, was charged that without the consent of the owner or other lawful authority on August 14, he took a car, registration number E2086, for his own use.

The prosecution requested that the matter be dealt with indictably but attorney Neville Reid, who represented Naughton, argued that under the legislation it could also be dealt with at the Magistrates’ Court.

Naughton then opted for summary trial and pleaded guilty. (HLE)
