The glimpse of hope that Scotty’s Car Rental St Andrew Lions had of staying in top-flight football faded when they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat by Brittons Hill on Thursday in the Barbados Football Association Premier League.

Facing a must-win situation, St Andrew Lions trailed as early as the first minute of the encounter played at the AstroTurf in Wildey, as Codeve Sobers struck the opening goal for Brittons Hill and Terrence Coppin added another in the 70th minute.

The score reflected the intense on-field battle given what was at stake in the game for both teams. Whereas St Andrew with a lone goal from Shakir Skeete (44th) badly needed to win, so too did Brittons Hills who are fighting to finish third overall in the standings.

Brittons Hill clinched that badly desired third spot, finishing the season on 42 points with 13 wins, three draws and six losses from 22 matches played. (ML)
