Guyana Amazon Warriors Women have cemented their place in the 2023 Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League Final on Sunday after beating defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets earlier this afternoon.
Knight Riders captain Deandra Dottin won the toss and chose to bat first at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba but her side were bowled out for a paltry 72 runs. It took the Amazon Warriors just 7.3 overs to knock the total off, finishing on 78-1.
Coming off an impressive 13 run victory on Wednesday over the previously unbeaten Barbados Royals, the Knight Riders would have been looking to repeat the trick with a tantalising final in store on Sunday. It was not to be as every batter bar Barbadians Kycia Knight (13 ) and Dottin (25) made single figure scores. Karishma Ramharack was their chief tormentor taking 3-12 in her four overs.
In reply, the best opening pair of the competition Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine broke the back of the chase, making 38 runs for the first wicket. Bates would be bowled behind her legs by an innocuous Dottin delivery for 18 but that only seemed to hasten Devine’s strokeplay. The highest run scorer of the competition (231 runs) hit two of her next three deliveries for boundaries then lifted Anisa Mohammed into the stands for two maximums to bring the game to a close in the eighth over.
Tomorrow, the Guyana Amazon Warriors will face Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba to contest the Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League Final.
