The “Sheriff” said he knew nothing about the guns, but the jury shot down that defence and now he will have to wait until next year to learn his fate.

Yesterday afternoon, after deliberating for one hour and 45 minutes, the nine-member jury found Dennis Alphonso Maynard, alias “Sheriff”, guilty on all counts.

Maynard, of Roach Village, St George, had been charged with having a .40 semi-automatic pistol, a .22 semi-automatic pistol and 39 rounds of ammunition on October 6, 2018, all unlicensed. He was also accused of having 1.25 grammes of marijuana.

During the trial, the No. 3 Supreme Court heard that police officers executed a search warrant at Survivors Bar & Chill Spot, an establishment owned by Maynard, on the day in question and found the weapons in an encased ledge, in a room which served as a kitchen/office. (SD)
