A call is being made to revisit the idea of amalgamating the Barbados Community College, Erdiston Teachers Training College and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) into a single unit.

The appeal is coming from chairman of the SJPI board of management Coreen Kennedy-Taitt during her remarks at their graduation ceremony of class of 2023 at the Hilton Barbados Resort on Saturday evening.

Kennedy-Taitt thanked the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training for its “guidance and support and formulation of education policies” that positively impacted on the SJPI and Barbados generally.

She said she was passionate about the “transformation of our education system. However, most of the discussion has focussed on early childhood, primary and secondary education”.

Kennedy-Taitt said the transformation document did not speak specifically to tertiary education institutions such as the SJPI. (JS)
