Reginald Farley, Dodridge Miller and Kerryann Ifill and are the newest loyal sons and daughter of the soil who have been conferred with the island’s highest national honour, the Order of the Freedom of Barbados.
The three, from vastly different interests, are among 35 who have been recognised for their contribution to the development of Barbados on the occasion of the 57th Anniversary of Independence.
Farley, a former Member of Parliament in the Owen Arthur administration, and accountant by profession, is the current president of the Senate. He has been honoured for his performance in that role, as well as his “sterling contribution to national and business development as well as the cohesion of the Social Partnership”.
Miller is recognised in Barbados and across the Caribbean as an outstanding figure in banking, Caribbean money management and entrepreneurship and his sterling contribution as a transformational and international financial leader.
Ifill, a former president of The Senate in the Freundel Stuart administration, has been conferred the honour for the “outstanding contribution to the enfranchisement of persons living with disabilities through education, employment and exposure”.
Also receiving honourary Order of the Freedom of Barbados conferment are president of the Rwanda, Paul Kagame, for his role in fostering collaboration and promoting economic diplomacy through the Pan African Network between Africa and the Caribbean; as well as Dr Irfaan Ali, president of Guyana.
Ali has been recognised for “his strong commitment to enhance cooperation and collaboration to achieve regional integration and to foster deeper social and economic partnerships particularly in relation to Food and Nutrition Security and for the upliftment of the people of Barbados and the region”.
Barbados’ double World Championship bronze medallist Sada Williams has been conferred the Gold Trident of Excellence.
The Barbados Bravery Medal will be going to two recipients this year. They are public service vehicle driver Marlon “Van Wick” Tempro, who fought off two would-be robbers, and Roger Rock, who rescued Antoine Alexander from a house fire at Queen’s Street, Nelson Street, St Michael.

Silver Trident of Excellence – For highly meritorious service or achievement in science, the arts, literature, sport, civic duties or any other endeavour worthy of national recognition.
- Dr Daniel Boamah, Dr Jacqueline King, Karen Meakins, Mitchell Nicholls and Lana Yard.
Barbados Service Star – For meritorious work in the public, fire, military, police, prison or other protective services or in any other similar field of endeavour.
- Pamelia Brereton, Heather Deane, Lt Commander Carl Farley, Maurice Gaskin, Rev. Stephen Lorde, Natalie Murray and Kevin Vaughan,
