Clyde Butts dies in accident

Georgetown – Former West Indies off-spinner Clyde Butts has died following a vehicular accident here Friday, news reports have said.

The accident occurred near Eccles in East Bank Demerara.

Butts, 66, played seven Tests between 1985 and 1988, taking ten wickets at an average of 59.

In 87 first class matches, the Guyanese claimed 348 wickets at 24 apiece.

Following his playing career, Butts served as chairman of the senior West Indies selection panel. (CMC)
