A small craft advisory will be in effect for Barbados for above normal swell heights, from 6 a.m. Wednesday, December 13 to 6 a.m. Friday, December 15.

This advisory has been issued for sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) that are affecting or are forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.

Northerly swells generated by a low-pressure system in the central northern Atlantic will be affecting the region from Wednesday through Friday.

As a result, seas are anticipated to be moderate in open water with northerly swells ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 metres, mainly along the northern and northeastern coastlines, with a peak in swell heights occurring throughout Thursday.

Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells.

This alert may be terminated sooner, if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
