A nurse accused of stealing almost $90 000, in a four-month span from the same woman, was released on bail, despite objections, when she appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

Donna Charlene Bishop-Griffith, 43, of Well Gap, Cave Hill, St Michael, denied 45 charges of theft of sums of money ranging from $1 000 to $3 000, between April 23 and July 1, 2023, which belonged to Marjorie Estaphan Knight.

She was also accused that she engaged in money laundering, between April 21 and July 1, 2023, in that she disposed of $87 740 in money being the proceeds of crime.

The prosecution objected to her release on bail and cited the seriousness and nature of the offences.

The prosecution noted the 45 allegations of theft were made over a four-month span, as it pointed to the need to protect society and the elderly. (HLE)

  1. This Nurse should be locked up for life, those poor old people went overseas work hard as hell to help build up this country and now in they latter days someone like Donna who was place in a position of trust to an ailing patient could come and take their money she should be behind bars for life. Donna should never be allowed on the streets again around old people’s homes what type of nurse would do that to their ailing patients she has no compassion at all she has no heart I say lock her up, lock her up, lock her to hell up.

  2. Anyone who prey on the elderly should be thrown in jail for a very long time.

A man who I paid top dollar to keep an eye on my mom, put her pension in his name without my permission. I found this out after my mom passed. He told NIS that he was her caregiver, yet she was in a private home paid for by me. He also refused to take her toiletries to the home and lied to me about her treatment. I am trying to get the laws in Barbados change to better protect the elderly.
