The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is pumping up to $150 000 into major emergency repairs at Hampton Pumping Station in St Philip.

Since last Thursday, householders and businesses in parts of St Philip, Christ Church and St Joseph have had to cope with water outages or low water pressure as a result of infrastructure work being carried out at the pumping station.

Senior engineer Hector Marshall said yesterday the work will involve changing pumps, motors, mains and repairing the sub-structure. He added it will include at least 20 personnel such as engineers, electricians, general workers and welders.

“This task will involve the use of a crane to pull out the inoperable pump, change it and then reinstall it. We will then put two more pumps on temporary supports so we can take out the existing substructure on the well head and [place] new I-beams. We will be changing all four pumps,” he told the media during a tour of the facility. (CA)
