No individual who thinks that “they have the right to pull a knife or assault any public servant, can expect to go home and drink Red Bull”.
So declared Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes yesterday, as he remanded the knife-wielding father, who was at the St Philip Polyclinic, to Dodds Prison when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
“I know in a lot of Government departments this is what is happening where a lot of members of the public are rude and downright disrespectful,” Chief Magistrate Weekes said.
“I have seen it downstairs (in the office of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court) myself. I have experienced it myself where people come to help members of the public and they behave as though people have no choice but to take on this kind of behaviour,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate was speaking as he dealt with Tical Romario Smith, 27, of Gemswick, St Philip, who had just pleaded guilty to assaulting nurse Camile Hunte on January 18. (HLE)
