The court believed that repeat offender Kadeen Onan Vaughn’s entering Savings Plus Supermarket at Rock Dundo, St Michael, on July 16, 2021 as a trespasser, and stealing $1 436.85 and a $55 cash pan, while armed with a firearm and a cutlass, warranted a custodial sentence.
Therefore, Justice Wanda Blair’s starting with consideration of 15 years in prison, when Vaughn, 29, returned before her in the No. 4A Supreme Court for sentencing last Friday.
After deductions for the 428 days he spent on remand and his guilty plea, the 29-year-old of Literary Row, The City, and formerly of Belleplaine, St Andrew, will have to spend a further 12 years, four months and five days in prison.
In the court’s view, the aggravating factors of the case were that Vaughn and his accomplice entered the supermarket armed while customers, including children, were inside. The wearing of ski masks also indicated there was premeditation and planning, the judge said, along with the changing of their clothes and shoes to avoid being detected. (SD)
