Shopkeepers playing it safe

Some shopkeepers are on high alert because of the recent increase in aggravated burglaries and robberies.

While some said they would adjust their opening hours, others plan to improve their security by installing surveillance cameras.

Operator of Lucas Bar, Eveline Lucas, said although their opening hours would remain the same, cameras were their next step.

The 83-year-old gave that update yesterday after a thief ran off with hundreds of dollars from the Weston, St James bar on Monday.

  1. This is so sad, that some thug has decided to rob this elderly woman?
    The shopkeeper is probably struggling just as he is!
    He probably has stolen from his grandmother in his younger days. If he had one!
    Otherwise he wouldn’t have robbed this elderly lady; who is trying to make ends meet.
