Athletes competing in various local sporting disciplines have not been tested so far this year to determine whether they have used banned performance-enhancing drugs.
That’s because Cabinet has not yet approved the reappointment of members of the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADC).
NADC’s outgoing chairman Dr Adrian Lorde made the startling revelation in an interview with Weekend Sport during the recently concluded 51st CARIFTA Games in Grenada where he also served as the chairman of the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee of the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Athletic Association, which administers the Caribbean’s most prestigious junior track and field meet.
Unlike in past years, when there was testing of senior athletes competing at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC), the NADC doping control officers were not present in an official capacity at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex this time around.
