The body of a female was retrieved from a well at Carmichael, St George about 11:15 p.m on Sunday.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Brewster told journalists at the scene that about “5:15p.m this evening a male was exercising his dog and during his trek of the track his dog spotted a scent in the direction of the well…as he went towards that direction the scent emitted strongly from the well. At that point in time he was unable to see the bottom of the well but he contacted the police who came and the body of the female was found.”

The Barbados Police Service along with the Fire Service and Barbados Defence Force aided in the retrieval of the body which took just over 5 hours.

Brewster disclosed that the female body was in a state of decomposition.
When asked if it was the body of Sonia Parris who is currently listed as missing, Brewster said “There is that possibility but because of the state of decomposition [but] we have to do further testing.”

Parris’ family members who were at the scene were visibly distraught while speaking to police. The 58-year-old was last seen on Wednesday leaving work at Chefette’s Wildey St. Michael branch.
On Sunday morning a search party comprising about 400 people was organised to find her in the areas of Jordans, St. George where her car was found partially burnt and St David’s, Christ Church.
