Twenty-six contestants will be facing the judges when the Junior Monarch semi-finals come off on July 7 at the National Botanical Gardens.

On Wednesday, the National Cultural Foundation named the 13 young calypsonians and 13 soca artistes who will seek to impress the judges in a bid to advance to the finals, slated for July 20 at the St Michael venue. There are also two reserve contestants – one in each category.

In the running among the young calypsonians are Kenaz Bit Bit Walker, who placed second in last year’s calypso category behind reigning calypso monarch Sakarah Thomas, who won with Alexa, and third-placed Eden Potent Murrell, who made his debut last year. They will be singing Show Them What Is Calypso and HOPE, respectively.

They, along with Trinity Clarke – who, based on these results has switched from the soca category where she placed second last year – along with Jazarie Zarie B Belgrave, will undoubtedly try their best to garner one of seven places in the final if Sakarah is defending her crown. Clarke’s song is titled No Joke. (GBM)
