Visitor arrivals to Barbados have exceeded projections for the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup.

As the island prepares to host the final of the global event at Kensington Oval tomorrow, officials have reported that 36 000 visitors arrived in the island between June 1 to 23 and the figure is expected to climb to between 39 000 and 40 000 by the end of the month.

Given that the initial projection for the tournament was between 25 000 and 30 000 visitors, chairman of the National Organising Committee Noel Lynch said Thursday the final numbers would be an added boost for the economy.

“Last year, up to June 23, we had 28 000 visitors. We have 36 000 now. These are good numbers,” he told the Weekend Nation. (HG)
