As Hurricane Beryl continues to strengthen, a hurricane warning remains in effect for Barbados.

Now a Category 3 storm, Beryl is exhibiting maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h) and is moving westward at 21 mph (33 km/h).

As of 11 a.m. today, the eye of Hurricane Beryl was located near 10.7N 54.9W, about 550 km (340 miles) east-southeast of Barbados, with a minimum central pressure of 964 mb. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the centre, while tropical storm-force winds reach up to 115 miles (185 km).

The hurricane hunter aircraft is still investigating the system and has detected storm-force winds in the outer bands of the system, indicating that these conditions could reach Barbados before midnight tonight.

The hurricane’s centre is expected to pass approximately 75 miles (120 km) south of Barbados early Monday morning.

Residents should prepare for hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall with potential accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, and the risk of flash flooding and severe thunderstorms.

Marine conditions are also predicted to deteriorate significantly.

The public is urged to stay informed through the Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS), Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Government Information Service (GIS) websites, social media, and local news outlets for further updates on Hurricane Beryl.
